Malawi Leader President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Wednesday, 8th November, 2023 leaves for Saudi Arabia for official engagements.
Chief on the agenda is the President’s meeting with Yasir Bin Othman Al Rumayyan, Chairman of the Saudi Arabia Oil Group (Aramanco) and Maedem Mining and Fertiliser Company.
On top of that, the president will meet His Excellency Sultan Al Marshad, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development and sign the Makanjira road project deal meaning that the long awaited Mangochi-Makanjira road project has been made possible.
The long awaited Mangochi-Makanjira road has been a challenge for Malawian citizens living within Mangochi and those plying their businesses in the area.
In his speech, during one of his recent engagements in Mangochi, President Chakwera told the people of Mangochi that he has secured funds from Saudi Arabia government through Saudi Fund to be used to construct the road segment between Mangochi and Makanjira.
Addressing the press in the morning today Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu said Chakwera will also attend Arab Africa Summit.
“Am sure most of you are aware that the Arab-Africa Summit is one of the oldest partnerships of the African Union (AU). The past four summits have been held in Cairo, Egypt in 1977; Sirte, Libya in 2010; Kuwait in 2013; and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea in 2016,” he said.
Kunkuyu said this 5th Arab-Africa Summit will be held under the leadership of His Excellency Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros and Chairperson of the African Union (AU) and His Majesty Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudi, King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Custodian of the Holy Mosques.
