Malawi Congress Party President and Malawi’s sixth President, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, today demonstrated why he is hailed as a visionary leader after holding strategic talks with respected veteran politician Grezelder Jeffrey at the MCP headquarters in Lilongwe.
The high-level engagement is part of MCP’s ongoing drive to review and strengthen its strategic plans ahead of 2030.

President Chakwera welcomed Mama Grezelder Jeffrey and described her as one of the pillars of Malawi’s political history whose wisdom must not be wasted.

“This engagement underscores the importance of continued consultation and dialogue with experienced political figures,” the President said. “Their knowledge and experience can contribute to strengthening the party and advancing our objectives for Malawi.”
Party insiders say the meeting signals Chakwera’s commitment to inclusivity and internal strengthening.

Since taking office, he has pushed for stronger party structures, improved operations, and a united MCP capable of driving the country’s development agenda through initiatives like the NEEF, mega farms, and job creation for the youth.
“The MCP remains committed to strengthening its structures and building a stronger and more united party capable of effectively serving its members and contributing to the development of Malawi,” a senior MCP official said after the meeting.
The talks with Grezelder Jeffrey come at a time when the political space is heating up, but President Chakwera has chosen the path of consultation over confrontation.
