Chitipa United Stun Goshen City as Osagie Brace Secures Away Victory

Chitipa United claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over hosts Goshen City Dedza Dynamos in an FDH Bank Premiership match played at Dedza Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Former Goshen City striker Friday Osagie haunted his former club by scoring both goals for Chitipa United, while Chifuniro Mpinganjira pulled one back for the home side from the penalty spot. However, the goal was not enough to prevent Goshen City from suffering another league defeat.

The loss leaves Goshen City in 14th place on the league table with eight points from 10 matches, increasing pressure on the Dedza-based side as the season progresses.

Chitipa United, meanwhile, climbed to 10th position with 13 points from the same number of games, boosting their hopes of moving further up the standings.

Speaking after the match, Goshen City’s interim head coach, Lazarus Deco Nyamera, admitted the result fell short of the team’s expectations and said the defeat had slowed their progress.

Nyamera, who suffered his first defeat since taking charge of the team, insisted that the players would not lose confidence and would instead focus on improving ahead of their next fixture.

Chitipa United coach Kondwa Ikwanga praised his players for their improving performances, warning that any team facing his side should expect a difficult contest.

Osagie was named Player of the Match after delivering an outstanding performance, scoring twice against his former club.

Elsewhere in the FDH Bank Premiership, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets failed to move closer to league leaders Mighty Wanderers after being held to a goalless draw by Ekhaya FC.

Blue Eagles also missed the opportunity to climb the table after losing 2-1 to Kamuzu Barracks.

At the top of the standings, Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers remain level on 21 points from 10 matches with an identical goal difference of +14. However, Wanderers continue to lead the table despite Silver Strikers’ convincing 4-1 victory over Karonga United.
