The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) has endorsed Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya as its candidate for the position of Executive Committee member in the upcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) elections.

The endorsement was made during the COSAFA Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Harare on Sunday.

Speaking in an interview after the endorsement, Haiya described the development as a great honour and expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him by the regional football body.

“I am really humbled, and I do not take it for granted,” he said.

CAF is the governing body of football in Africa.

It was founded in 1957 and is headquartered in Cairo.

The organisation is responsible for organising and managing major football competitions on the continent, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the CAF Champions League, and various women’s and youth tournaments.

It also oversees the development and promotion of football across its member associations.

CAF works under the global football governing body, FIFA, and is made up of 54 member nations from across Africa.
