The Zambian presidential election results has entered into a period of drama as the Judiciary has submitted to the Secretary to the Cabinet that no complaint has been filed in the Constitutional Court Registry as at 18: 00 hours on the 24th August, 2026.
In its submission to the Cabinet in a letter dated 25th August, 2026 signed by the Chief Administrator Ms Nalishebo Imalan, said in pursuant to Articles 101(4) and 103(1) of the Constitution of Zambia, a person may within seven – days of the declaration of a President – elect petition the Constitutional Court to nullify the election on the ground that the person was not validly elected or other law relating to presidential elections was not complied with.
“The Constitutional Court Registry is for purposes of a presidential election petition open as from 08;30 hours to 18:00 hours,” reads the letter in part.
The letter said following the 2026 presidential elections and the declaration of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema as President – elect between 02;00 a.m and 06;00 p.m no petition had been filed meaning that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema is set to be inaugurated as Zambian President next Tuesday in Lusaka following his re – elections with about 60 percent of the votes counted.
