Country music legend Dolly Parton has left behind an unreleased song that is scheduled to be heard by the public nearly two decades after her death.
Parton, who died on Tuesday aged 80, reportedly ordered that her unreleased song, “My Place in History,” be sealed in a box until January 19, 2046.
The date would have marked Parton’s 100th birthday, making the planned release a special tribute to the legendary singer and songwriter.
Parton recorded the song in 2015, more than 30 years before its scheduled unveiling.
By ordering the recording to remain sealed, Parton created what will effectively become a musical time capsule for her fans and future generations.
The song’s title, “My Place in History,” has gained added significance following the singer’s death at the age of 80.
Fans will have to wait until January 19, 2046, to discover the message and musical style contained in the unreleased recording.
The unusual decision reflects Parton’s long-standing creativity and her ability to connect with audiences beyond her lifetime.
When the box is finally opened, the song is expected to become one of the most anticipated posthumous releases associated with the country music icon.
