Former Anglican Bishop ‘Malango’ Dies

The first Bishop of Upper Shire diocese of the Anglican Church Bishop Bernard Amos Malango has died.

According to a brief statement released by the diocese, Malango died on Saturday around midday after a long illness.

Meanwhile, the burial of late Bishop Malango who also served as Archbishop of Central Africa and Bishop of Northern Zambia will be announced later.

Born in 1943, Malango was ordained in 1971, became a priest in 1972 and was consecrated in 1988.

He was Bishop’s Chaplain in Malosa from 1974 to 1976 and from 1984 to 1988 he was Convenor in Malawi of the Islam Project in Africa.

Malango became Bishop of Upper Shire in 2002.
