Over 200 households have been rendered homeless in the area of Senior Chief Mkukula in Dowa district following heavy storm rains that hit the area yesterday.
Councilor for Mkukula ward B Maxwell Masa has confirmed the development to local media a short while ago saying that people have lost their properties and livestock due to the downpours.
He has since appealed to the authorities to urgently assist the affected families.
For the past two days some parts of Dowa district have received heavy rains that have made many households destitute and homeless.
More updates are expected as assessments continue.
