HRW report to VP Ansah: Malawi must end attacks and exclusion of people with albinism

By Staff Reporter

Human Rights Watch has presented a report to Vice President Dr Jane Ansah that documents continued attacks and violations against persons with albinism in Malawi.

The report, set to be launched this Friday in Lilongwe, is based on research conducted in nine districts, where over 80 people, including persons with albinism, their families, community leaders, and rights organizations, were interviewed.

The study examined challenges affecting people with albinism, including education, employment, inclusion, and access to social protection programmes.

Speaking after meeting the Vice President, Elizabeth Kamundia, Director of the Disability Rights Division at Human Rights Watch, urged government to fund the National Action Plan on Albinism and address the social and economic exclusion faced by people with albinism.
