Malawi remembers Vice President Saulos Chilima and crash victims two years on

By Burnett Munthali

Two years have passed since Malawi lost Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, an event that still resonates across the country.

The tribute was shared on Facebook by Winnie Nyondo, who reflected on the void left by the departure of a leader many regarded as exceptional, a mentor, and a boss.

Nyondo wrote that Chilima, known widely by his initials SKC, remains a source of pride for those who worked alongside him.

She said his wisdom, kindness, and dedication continue to inspire everyone whose lives he touched during his time in public service.

According to Nyondo, Chilima led with integrity and treated people with respect and compassion, qualities that defined his leadership style.

Today, she noted, Malawians remember him with gratitude and honor the legacy he left behind in governance and public reform.

Although he is no longer with them, his impact remains alive in the hearts of citizens and in the lives he helped shape.

Nyondo also extended her remembrance to the others who died in the June 2024 plane crash alongside the vice president.

She mentioned Shanil Dzimbiri, Abdul Lapken, Lukas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni, Dan Dzinyemba, Owen Sambalopa, Flora Selemani Ngwirinji, and Wales Aidini by name.

She said they are deeply missed but never forgotten by colleagues, families, and the nation they served.

The message closed with a prayer that their souls continue to rest in eternal peace.
