Malawians from across the political, religious and social spectrum are expected to gather in Ntcheu on Saturday to honour former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima at a memorial service marking one year since his death.
Chairperson of the organising committee, Efrem Chilima, says all preparations have been completed for the memorial service which will celebrate Chilima’s life and the impact he made on many people.
“The programme will start with a Catholic Mass at 9 a.m, followed by tributes from family members, friends, church leaders and politicians,” he said.

It will also include the unveiling and blessing of Chilima’s resting place, wreath-laying and prayers, he added.
Meanwhile, UTM Spokesperson Felix Njawala says the memorial will highlight Chilima’s contribution to Malawi’s politics as he inspired many young people to take an interest in politics and brought a new approach to political engagement.
Late Dr Saulos Chilima died in a plane crash on 10 June 2024.
The anniversary event is expected to draw government officials, civil society leaders, and citizens who recall Chilima’s role as a reformist voice in Malawian politics.
Organizers say the day will serve both as a moment of remembrance and reflection on the values Chilima championed during his time in public service.
