A Malawian-born entrepreneur has expanded his business interests into the United Kingdom with the launch of Noire Lounge & Bar, a new entertainment venue in Nottingham’s Hockley district.
The development was reported by Nation Online, which said the establishment held its official opening last Friday, attracting business figures, members of the Malawian diaspora and local dignitaries.
Owned by British entrepreneur of Malawian heritage Edwin Ndenguma, the venue is designed around an upscale nightlife experience combining contemporary décor, cocktails and music. Its programme features genres including Afrobeat, R&B and Amapiano.

Ndenguma said the project represents more than a commercial venture, describing it as an effort to bring Malawian identity and cultural values into an international business environment.
“This lounge is more than just a business investment; it is a celebration of identity, culture, and community,” he said.
He explained that his Malawian upbringing influenced his vision for creating a hospitality space associated with warmth, quality service and an African cultural identity.
The name Noire, derived from the French word for “black”, was selected to convey themes of elegance, sophistication and luxury, according to the entrepreneur.
The venue features subdued lighting, modern furnishings and a hospitality concept aimed at professionals, music enthusiasts and other adult customers seeking an upscale social environment.
The opening ceremony also included the participation of Justice Agnes Patemba and Councillor Audrey Dinnall, the Sheriff of Nottingham, who joined Ndenguma for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Ndenguma said their participation represented an important recognition of the contribution made by members of the Malawian diaspora to Britain’s cultural and economic life.
He also acknowledged the support of the Malawi High Commission and the City of Nottingham, saying the business would seek to demonstrate the standards and potential of Malawian entrepreneurs abroad.
The launch positions Noire Lounge as a new addition to Nottingham’s entertainment sector while highlighting the growing role of diaspora entrepreneurs in establishing businesses that connect African heritage with international markets.
