MCP shocked by the alleged abduction of Sylvester Namiwa

The Malawi Congress Party has reacted to the ongoing allegations that Human Rights activists Sylvester Namiwa was abducted by some unknown people and that his whereabouts were not known

In a statement released from the Party and signed by Publicity Secretary Reverend Maurice Munthali it states “On Wednesday, 27th July 2022, the leadership of the Malawi Congress Party
heard with dismay that Mr Sylvester Namiwa of CIDEDI was allegedly abducted
by unknown people to an unknown place.”

The statement went on to say the party is equally shocked by these developments “This news has not only shocked the leadership and the entire Malawi Congress
Party; it is incomprehensible and unacceptable development in a new Malawi.
This is why the Malawi Congress Party condemns this alleged abduction of
Sylvester Namiwa in the strongest terms.”


“As a law abiding Party, we believe in and uphold the rule of law and all the
freedoms and rights as enshrined in our Republican Constitution. Malawi is a
free society whose citizens must, at all times, enjoy and exercise their freedoms
and rights including the right to free assembly”


“As a Party, we implore on the Malawi Police Service to intensify their
investigations into this matter and speedily bring all those involved to justice
because Malawians need to know the whole truth on this sad incident.
It is our hope and prayer that God will save the life of Mr Sylvester Namiwa” read the statement
