Thousands of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters thronged Nguluwe Ground in Lilongwe’s Bwaila Constituency today for a victory thank-you rally that doubled as a high-profile welcoming ceremony for independent Members of Parliament crossing over to the ruling party.
The rally, organized by newly elected Bwaila Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Precious Ufulu Kabambe, was graced by MCP Secretary General Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda as guest of honour. The event was held to express gratitude to voters who turned out in large numbers to support Kabambe in the recent by-election.
However, the highlight of the gathering came when two independent MPs officially declared their allegiance to the MCP. Hon. Khadija Chunga, representing Lilongwe Kamphuno Constituency, and Hon. Moses Chakana of Ntchisi West Constituency were formally received into the party’s fold amid thunderous applause from the excited crowd.
In his address to the enthusiastic gathering, Chimwendo Banda delivered a passionate message urging unity and tolerance among party members. The Secretary General emphasised the importance of setting aside differences and working together for the collective good of the party and the nation. He called on all MCP members to embrace one another and prioritise the party’s shared vision over personal ambitions.
The rally drew significant attendance from senior party leadership, demonstrating the MCP’s strong organisational presence and commitment to expanding its political base. The presence of top officials underscored the strategic importance of welcoming former independent candidates into the party’s ranks as the MCP continues to consolidate its influence across the country.
Kabambe, who emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Bwaila by-election, expressed gratitude to the electorate for their unwavering support. He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Bwaila Constituency diligently and pledged to work closely with the party leadership to deliver on development promises.
The atmosphere at Nguluwe Ground was electric as supporters cheered and danced, celebrating both the by-election victory and the new additions to the MCP family. The rally served as a powerful display of unity and political momentum for the ruling party.
