Malawi Electoral Commission(MEC) today released a programme of Presidential nomination papers presentation. The presentations are due to take place this Wednesday and Thursday. Eagle eyed observers have been quick to observe that programme shows  that the torchbearer of the Tonse alliance  is Dr Lazarus Chakwera.

There has been growing tension and speculation as to who will lead the alliance . UTM and MCP  have been quiet about it . Early this week MCP chief whip Sam Kawale received backlash when he posted on his Facebook that Chakwera is the torchbearer.  On Monday morning , UTM leader  addressing journalists at a press conference  said  the issue of who will lead the alliance  is not the important one  but focus should be  on serving the people of Malawi. He went on to say the alliance will be led by either him of Dr Chakwera.

According to MEC programme, Dr Chakwera will be the first to present his nomination papers on Wednesday morning at 9 oclock.  He will later be followed up by in Shaibu Mustafa of New Vision party, Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku   and independent candidates Ras Chikomeni Chirwa and Revererand Kaliya

Thursday sees current president and DPP president Peter Mutharika present his nomination papers. Other to present papers on Thursday are independents Wesuze Nkhoma, Smart Swila and Phunziro Mvula
