MRA Beats First Quarter Revenue Target by K20 Billion

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has surpassed its revenue collection target for the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year after collecting K1.398 trillion between April and June.

According to the Authority, the revenue collected from 1 April to 30 June 2026 exceeded the quarterly target of K1.378 trillion by K20 billion, marking a strong start to the financial year.

MRA disclosed the figures in a news update released on Wednesday, saying the positive performance reflects improved tax compliance and strengthened revenue administration measures.

The Authority said the achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to enhance tax collection systems and improve compliance among taxpayers.

MRA attributed the surplus to increased adherence to tax obligations by individuals and businesses, coupled with enhanced tax administration initiatives.

The Authority noted that the additional K20 billion collected above target will help support government programmes and national development priorities through increased domestic revenue.

MRA also expressed appreciation to compliant taxpayers for fulfilling their tax obligations and contributing to the country’s revenue goals.

The Authority said the continued cooperation of taxpayers remains vital in ensuring sustainable domestic resource mobilisation and financing public services.

MRA further encouraged taxpayers to maintain compliance, stressing that timely payment of taxes is essential for Malawi’s economic growth and development.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to improving tax administration, promoting voluntary compliance, and working with taxpayers to achieve future revenue targets.
