Malawian nasheed artist Muhammad Ali has urged Muslim religious leaders to conduct proper research before answering questions from people they lead.
Ali has made the call through his latest nasheed, “Mafunso Anga,” which he released today to convey a message about seeking knowledge and evidence in Islam.
Through the nasheed, Ali reminds Muslims that religious questions should not be answered simply based on what one has heard or personally believes.
He says those entrusted with guiding others should ensure that their answers are supported by authentic evidence from the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
According to Ali, providing answers without proper research can potentially mislead people who depend on religious leaders for guidance and understanding.
He therefore encourages people who are in positions of religious leadership to take time to investigate questions before giving answers, particularly on matters concerning Islamic teachings.
The message also comes at a time when religious discussions and information are increasingly shared through social media, where unverified opinions can easily reach a large audience.
Ali says Muslims should make authentic Islamic sources the foundation of their understanding rather than relying solely on personal opinions, hearsay or information that has not been properly verified.
The artist is known for using nasheeds to communicate Islamic teachings and social messages. His other nasheeds include “Ana Anga” and “Ndizabwera,” among others.
Through “Mafunso Anga,” Muhammad Ali is calling for greater responsibility among those who guide Muslims, stressing the importance of research, evidence and authentic Islamic teachings when answering religious questions.
