Malawi opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate, Arthur Peter Mutharika says he has one job; to remove the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) from the government.
Mutharika said he is ready to take over the government and bring prosperity in the country arguing he is the only hope.
The former Malawi president chided the Lazarus Chakwera led government for raising their socio-economic status quo to deplorable levels.
He mentioned hunger, political oppression and rising prices of commodities and services among issues the government has failed to deal with.
“I accepted that I will stand again because I love you my people and I love my country,” Mutharika said.
Mutharika called the government “rotten” to which people echoed that “things are not ok” while chanting songs.
Thousands have lined up the streets from Mbayani, Chemusa, Manda a Mbuzi, Ndirande, Manje and Bangwe Mvula causing massive traffic jams to hear the former Malawi leader as he conducts a whistle stop tour in Blantyre.
He said he is ready to take over government mentioning several reforms such as rehabilitation of schools, roads and hospitals as well as stocking them with medicine as priorities.
APM as he is fondly known called on Malawians to unite and register with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to be eligible to vote.
Malawians go to the polls on September 16 in what will be a highly contested election with 50+1 mandate to be used for the first time.
