President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has once again positioned Malawi at the center of regional leadership, delivering a strong SADC message on democracy and peace ahead of Zambia’s General Election on August 13, 2026.
In his capacity as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, President Mutharika addressed the people of Southern Africa on 11 August 2026.
He emphasized respect for peace and tolerance during and after election day, and urged Zambians to vote peacefully and exercise their constitutional right.
“The SEOM is a key part of our community, aimed at strengthening democracy through regular, credible, free, fair, and transparent elections,” President Mutharika said.
He reaffirmed that SADC’s election principles are built on full and inclusive citizen participation, and that stable elections support stable political and economic transitions across the region.
The statement has drawn wide praise, with political analysts noting that President Mutharika’s calm, principled leadership is exactly what the region needs.
His guidance comes at a time when he was recently recognized by APAC as a leader of integrity and vision.
APAC described President Mutharika as the only African leader who truly cares for his people, a sentiment now echoed by many across the continent.
Several African presidents are said to admire President Mutharika for his commitment to democracy, unity and development without populism.
Under his guidance, Malawi continues to be respected as a voice of reason in SADC on security, governance and regional stability.
As Chair of the SADC Organ, President Mutharika called on all eligible voters in Zambia to “seize this opportunity to directly influence their country’s leadership by voting peacefully on August 13th, 2026.”
With Malawi speaking for the region, President Mutharika’s leadership is reinforcing the DPP government’s reputation for diplomacy, discipline and service.
