President Peter Mutharika says he will not be distracted by fake reports about the Presidency which he says are aimed at disrupting the discharge of his duties.
The President was reacting to recent reports that he delegated a cabinet minister to chair a cabinet meeting he had convened on May 27, 2026.
In a statement signed by the Chief Secretary to the Government and Cabinet, Dr. Justin Saidi, the President has emphasized that he remains focused on restoring Malawi’s economic stability and strengthening public service delivery.

He added that no amount of rumor-mongering would compel him to act otherwise, noting that he is not a ceremonial president.
On delegating powers, the statement has emphasized that the President delegates representation to the most relevant and appropriate official, bearing in mind the nature and objectives of each specific action.
“Such decisions are not motivated by malice, indifference, or ill-will, but are deliberate measures aimed at promoting governance and reducing unnecessary public expenditure,” the statement adds.
