One person has died and three other people are missing after the canoe they were sailing in capsized in Shire river on friday when they wanted to cross theĀ river.
The deceased has been identified as Ellen Mikaele aged 22 of Gustino Village Traditional Authority Kasisi in Chikwawa District.
According to Chikwawa Police Spokesperson, Dickson Matemba, the canoe had seven passengers on board including an operator identified as Anold Sandalasi aged 40 of Dzinkhwende Village Traditional Authority Kasisi.

Matemba says when they started sailing, the canoe operator failed to control the force exerted by water due swelling of the shire river prompting the canoe to capsize and all passengers fell into water.
According to him, well wishers managed to retrieve four people including the deceased adding that the particulars of other people are still unknown.
Meanwhile, the search oparation for the three remaining people including the operator is currently underway.
