Minister of gender Mary Navicha partners with MBC to amplify social protection campaigns

By Jones Gadama

Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Mary Navicha on Friday met the Director General of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and his management team to strengthen how government reaches citizens with key social messages.

The meeting centered on using MBC’s national radio and TV platforms to increase public awareness on child protection, positive parenting, prevention of gender-based violence, mental health, disability inclusion, community development, and other social protection programs.

Both sides agreed to scale up collaboration so that critical information reaches rural and urban communities.

The focus is on driving positive behavior change and ensuring inclusion for groups often left out of mainstream development conversations, including women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities.

Navicha said the Ministry values MBC as a strategic partner in delivering messages that improve well-being and protect vulnerable Malawians.

She noted that public media can help translate policies into action at community level.

The MBC Director General reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to support government’s development agenda.

He said MBC will work with the Ministry to produce consistent content, public service announcements, and community engagement programs that promote inclusion and social welfare.

The partnership is framed under government’s “leave no one behind” principle, with both institutions pledging to coordinate efforts so that development benefits reach all Malawians.
