By Vincent Gunde

Political activist Bon Elias Kalindo has condoled families of six individuals of Area 24 in Lilongwe who have died following a road accident at Nature Sanctuary when a vehicle in which they were traveling in loaded with relief maize from Bingu National Sports Stadium was involved in an accident.

Kalindo has described the death of these six individuals as very sad coming at a time many family households are sleeping with empty stomachs because their pockets cannot afford to cough out K5,000 for a pail of 5Litre maize.

Poor people are contributing money to hire vehicles carrying relief maize to their homes.

He said these individuals were coming from Bingu Stadium after receiving relief maize which government is distributing across the country lamenting that poor people are walking long distances to Bingu Stadium, Civo Stadium and Kanengo Police Station to receive a bag of relief maize each.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Kalindo has claimed that this accident which has claimed lives of six people on the same spot could have been avoided if the government identified places within their localities to receive relief maize.

Kalindo said poor people are contributing money for transport to ferry the maize from the distribution centres to their respective homes advising the government to reduce distance beneficiaries are walking to distribution centres for them to sing a good song of the praising government.

“Being President of the poor people in Malawi, I am sudden by the untimely death of these six people, may all the families receive my heartfelt condolences for the loss,” he said.

Kalindo has reminded all political parties in Malawi that 50+1 majority win was put in place by the court pleading with the legal practitioners to visit, review and make amendments in time for each and every party to have their own torchbearer on the ballot.

He said a big lesson has been drawn from MCP-UTM Alliance where Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima is being taken as a useless person besides sponsoring the MCP through the ballot advising all of its members to vote for President Chakwera.

The activist has claimed that he was receiving many calls from the MCP on the Alliance formation while he was UTMs Director of Youth not knowing that the MCP had a hidden agenda to fool Dr. Chilima and use him as a ladder to advance their political position in government.

He has made it clear that Malawians are being taken for granted by the MCP led Tonse Alliance government observing that it has completely forgotten that without Dr. Chilima, President Chakwera would not have been in government today.

Silver Strikers Football Club has on Friday fired head coach Pieter De Jongh just a year into his two year deal with the Central Bankers.

In a statement, the club said, the decision to part ways with the Dutch coach was made after a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance against set targets and obligations.

“While we appreciate the efforts and dedication, Mr. De Jongh has shown during his tenure with the club, the decision to part ways has been made in the best interest of the club’s future objectives and aspirations,”reads the statement from the Central Bankers.

The club added that a new coach will be identified very soon to replace De Jongh.

“Silver Strikers Football Club is committed to building a competitive team and will soon begin the process of selecting a new Head Coach.

“The search for a suitable candidate will be conducted with utmost care and consideration to ensure that the club continues to progress and achieve its set goals,”adds the club’s statement.

The self acclaimed “champ” joined the Area 47-based side at the start of the 2023 season in which he was given a target of winning the league and at least one of the three cups played in the just ended season.

Despite starting well, Silver failed to beat Bullets to the league title and also failed to win any of the three cups that were won by Kalisto Pasuwa’s charges in their first ever quadruple success.

He was summoned to a hearing in which he did not show up as he was still in Kenya for his holiday.

During his one year stay with the club, the ‘Champ’ was never short of controversies as he was, on several occasions, received marching orders from referees, exchanged words with opposite technical members, took a swipe at his own board and wasted much of his time fighting Bullets.

He also blamed the team’s failure to win any silverware on Chimwemwe Idana’s absence in seven games due to contract dispute and ended up blaming the board for not signing the players he requested.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says his government will continue to plant development projects in all the districts as one way of transforming the country.

The President made the remarks at Mwanza Community Ground on Friday during a development rally after inspecting different projects currently underway in the district.

Chakwera said his government is doing all it can to establish different construction projects and his visit to Mwanza was to inspect development projects and appreciate challenges people in the district are facing.

“I am delighted to see good progress on the projects like police staff houses.

“However, I am also disappointed to see Mwanza Secondary School being in a dilapidated state due to negligence of some people who are failing to do some rehabilitation works.

“There is need to change the face of the district by constructing modern infrastructure,” said President Chakwera.

He, therefore, pledged that government will construct new office buildings at Mwanza District Council so that staff should work in a conducive environment.

He added that government will also construct modern market infrastructure and a bus depot at Mwanza Boma, among others.

The President said it is high time contractors in the district should start building durable and high quality infrastructure that could withstand bad weather.

Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, hailed government for rolling out different development infrastructures in all the districts across the country.

“This is enough evidence of government’s commitment to develop all the districts including Mwanza,”said Banda.

Before holding the development rally, the president visited Mwanza Secondary School and Mwanza District Hospital before inspecting construction of police staff houses and laying a foundation stone for construction of Mwanza Stadium.

Is it good to have garlic before going to bed?

Amongst its other valuable nutrients, garlic contains zinc and high concentrations of sulfurous compounds like allicin, which naturally promote relaxation, helping you fall asleep faster.

The adequate content of magnesium and potassium that exists in garlic has an important role in the quality of sleep. Eating garlic at night benefits should not be forgotten. To sleep deeply, the brain needs to reduce neurons and nervous system activity.

Eating raw garlic on an empty stomach can help in reducing the cholesterol level. According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, aged garlic supplement can prevent the clogging of arteries and improve heart health.

We conclude that undamaged garlic (swallowed) had no lowering effect on lipid level of serum. But Crushed garlic (chewed) reduces cholesterol, triglyceride, MDA and blood pressure. Finally, the enzymes from the allicin need a few minutes to start working, so let it sit after you mince, crush or chop it. “You’ll get the most benefit from raw garlic,” says Jeffers.
