Driemo in Zambia for a Media Tour

Malawi’s multi award winning Afro-pop singer Driemo is in Zambia where he is expected to have a series of TV and radio interviews.

According to Driemo, real name Shaffie Phiri, the purpose of these interviews is to promote his latest album, “Mzaliwa,” which was launched on August 12 at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.



The ‘Popo’ hit maker said the trip will help him to connect with his fans and push his album which is already among the top 5 albums in Zambia.

Some of the media houses that Driemo will visit include Prime TV, Phoenix FM, Q TV, Power TV, Diamond TV, Metro FM, ZNBC TV 2 and ZNBC TV1.

Sri-Lankan national Thavaraj Caruppiah deported for contravening immigration laws

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services on Saturday last week deported a Sri-Lankan national Thavaraj Caruppiah for contravening the country’s immigration laws.

Confirming the development to 247 Malawi News, the Department’s National Spokesperson, Wellington Chiponde, said Carupiah was arrested and declared a prohibited immigrant in Malawi on 20 June 2022.

He said the immigration department attempted to deport Caruppiah twice in 2021 and 2022 but was unsuccessful.

Chiponde further said after the arrest, the Sri Lankan national sought a court injunction and it was subsequently vacated by the Department of Immigration.

“He then went on hiding assisted by his lawyer and a pastor until his arrest this week by the Police,” said Chiponde.

He concluded that their Department is therefore, advising the Public that harbouring prohibited immigrants is a serious criminal offence and any person found doing so will face the law.

Caruppiah who came in Malawi in 2014 was working as a pharmacist for Pharma-Chemie Limited in Lilongwe.

Three fined for assaulting court marshall

In Zomba, three people have on Friday been fined K250,000 each by the Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate court for assaulting a court marshall whilst on official duties.

The court heard that Alfred Aufi Assan and two others committed the offence on April 21, 2023 where they assaulted Dennis Banda, a court marshal under Blantyre Magistrate Court as he was assigned to deliver a court summon to Magret Chikaluma who is wife to Alfred Aufi Assan.



The three alleged Banda to be a fraudster and assaulted him, leaving him with torn clothes, multiple bruises and bleeding through the nose.

The matter was reported to police leading to the arrest of the accused persons.

Appearing before court, the three pleaded not guilty to a charge levelled against them.

This prompted the state to parade three witnesses leading to their conviction.

Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Yohane Munthali concurred with the state’s submissions and ordered the accused persons to pay a fine of K250,000.00 each or in default serve 12 months imprisonment with hard labour.

Chitipa United title hopes suffer another setback

Chitipa United’s TNM Super League title aspirations suffered yet another setback as they were beaten 2-nil by Kamuzu Barracks (KB) at Kasungu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Two first half goals from Olson Kanjira were enough for the Lilongwe based soldiers to collect maximum points.

Kanjira put the soldiers ahead just 7 minutes into the game when he connected home a well taken corner kick by Chimwemwe Chisambi.

Kanjira completed his brace in the 26th minute with a beautiful goal after receiving a pass from Zeliat Nkhoma.

Despite the loss, Chitipa United remain third on the log table with 39 points from 22 games while KB have moved to position 5 with 35 points from 23 games.

Elsewhere, Ekwendeni Hammers gave away their early lead to draw 1-1 against Mighty Tigers at Rumphi Stadium.

Samuel Adebiyi Adeyemi broke the deadlock just 7 minutes into the game but the visitors equalized in the 68th minute through Precious Chiudza.

There was another 1-1 draw at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe as Civil Service United and Karonga United shared the spoils.

Chikaiko Batson gave the home side the lead in the 31st minute but Josiah Duwa equalized for Karonga just 10 minutes before the end of the regulation time.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets remain top on the log table with 40 points followed by city rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who have accumulated the same number of points but have played two more games than the People’s team.

Bullets through to the FDH Cup Final after thumping Dedza Dynamos 5-1

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are through to the finals of the K120 million FDH Bank Cup following their 5-1 win against Dedza Dynamos in a semi-final match that took place at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

A brace from Anthony Mfune, and goals from Collins Okumu, Hassan Kajoke and McFarlen Ngwira was all what Bullets needed to book themselves a place in the final of the prestigious cup.

The People’s team took the lead three minutes into the game, through Collins Okumu who scored with a powerful header, connecting well a Patrick Mwaungulu’s beautifully taken free-kick.



Hassan Kajoke doubled the lead for the home side scoring his fourth goal in the tournament after receiving an excellent cross from Gomezgani Chirwa in the 65th minute.

Anthony Mfune increased the lead from a rebound in the 69th minute and completed his brace just four minutes later connecting well a beautiful pass from Patrick Mwaungulu.

Bullets got their final goal of the match just a minute before the end of the regulation time through MacFarlane Mgwira.

Mgwira capitalized on a defensive blander by Donnex Mwakasinga who gave away the ball to the opposition and it found the veteran player who made no mistake but to seal the victory for the Ndirande outfit.

Dedza got their consolation through Gift Magola who capitalized on a Collins Okumu’s blander to find the back of the net in the 85th minute.

The win means that Bullets have reached the FDH Cup final for the second time in a row and they will face Mafco FC who reached the final after outclassing Bullets’ rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers last weekend.

Bullets are the defending champions of FDH Cup as they won the cup last season after beating their juniors, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve.
