Chitipa United increases survival chances in TNM Super League

Chitipa United has lifted up it’s survival chances in the Elite tnm super league after a 1 nill win against TN Stars on Saturday.

The game played at Karonga’s soccer cathedral saw Chitipa United start the match with pressure on the visitor’s side in the first half.
The efforts placed in the first half yielded Chitipa United a leading goal courtesy of Alex Benson which was a header at the 42nd minute of the match.

The second half saw Chitipa United defend their leading goal with reduced pressure to the opponents who failed to create any meaningful chances.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Chitipa United coach, Christopher Nyambose expressed joy over the win saying this was a win win game as they aim at surviving relegation in the league.
“I am happy that we have won the game and we deserved the win because this was a win win game for us as we want to escape relegation, so I have to thank my boys for working tirelessly to the end.” He said.
He has since promised his team’s supporters that his team cannot be relegated and they will win the next games.

In a separate interview, TN Stars coach, Josephy Malizani alluded the defeat to lack of preparation for the match.
“This defeat is to us a clear sign that we were not prepared for the game as players gave up after conceding a goal but this is part of the game and we will sort this out as we return to training sessions.” He said
He has since thanked his players for obtaining a point from the game against Karonga United on Saturday.

With the win, Chitipa United now has 29 points equaling with Blue Eagles which is also on the red line in the league while TN Stars remains with 40 points.

Malawi Police To Launch A Radio Station Next Month

The Malawi Police Service is expected to launch a radio station next month with an aim of improving its relationship with ordinary citizens.

An official for the police headquarters who opted for anonymity said the radio station will provide information about police and help reach the public better.

Apart from bringing police services closer to the people, the FM station which will be called Police FM Radio, is expected to enhance the security and safety of the Malawian citizens.

James Kadadzera, to be station manager?

According to the official, most of the workers at the station will be police officers with a media background and national police public relations officer James Kadadzera is going to be the station manager.

Efforts to talk to Kadadzera proved futile as his phone could not be reached the time we went to press.

Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter has so far been engaging police public relations officers in radio communication and production.

Meanwhile some police public relation officers in various districts have already been transferred to the police headquarters to work at the station.

Other notable officers include Rodrick Maida, Felix Misomali and Hastings Chigalu who were PROs for Mangochi, Balaka and Ntcheu respectively.

Government urged to introduce First Aid lessons in schools

Government has been called to introduce First Aid Studies in schools if the country is to reduce hospital admissions and save resources.

The call comes as Malawi on 10th September, joined the rest of the World in commemorating First Aid day but Malawi Red Cross Society commemorated the day on 17 September under the theme ” Be a first aid hero at school and in your community”.

The Commemoration that drew different stakeholders together, saw experts discussing how First Aid in Malawi can be improved.

In an interview, Dr Yankho Luwe, Ministry of Health Acting Deputy Director for curative and medical rehabilitation services responsible for emergency response and disaster management said having first aid studies in schools would help reduce cases of admission in most casualty units saying many admissions in the hospitals now are as a result of lack of care at the time of injury.

On his part, Patrick Phiri Malawi Red Cross Society Acting Director of Programmes concurred with Luwe saying Red Cross has noted a big improvement on the country’s health system because of First Aid.

“First Aid is an integral part of our programming. currently, we have trained 400 schools in First Aid and that’s ranging from Tertiary, Secondary and Primary schools. There has been a big change as now learners help each other when there is an injury case and other health problems. So bringing First Aid studies in Schools will have a huge impact”. Said Phiri.

But Ellen Simango, Ministry of Education Deputy Director responsible for Basic Education said the issue requires further discussions on how the Curriculum can be incorporated.

Malawi Bureau of Standards releases new expected standards

The Malawi Bureau of Standards ( MBS) says it has finalized and released twelve new Malawi Standards in its last quarter of the year 2020-2021.

MBS says the new Standards which are now available in the Standards Information at its head office in Blantyre and all its region offices a cross the country are sold at an affordable price and that they cover diverse sectors of economy.

New standards from MBS

According to the press statement this publication has seen, the following are some of the new standards:

  1. MS-ISO 10006: 2017 Quality Management Systems Guidelines for quality management in projects.
  2. MS 116: 2018 salted fish and dried salted fish-spesfications.
  3. MS 1331: 2017 Edible mushroom and mushroom specifications.
  4. MS 111: 2018 Dairy Farming Code of hygiene conditions of milking.
    Established in 1972 by the Act of Parliament ( Cap 51:02), the Malawi Beuraeu of Standards( MBS) is a statutory organization that has a mandate to promote the standardization of commodities and their manufacture, production,processing and treatment. Apart from this, the statutory body also provides the verification and the calibration of weighing and measuring instruments of the commodities.

Activist commends Education Ministry for plans to establish Education National Radio

One of the Education Activists in the country Steve Sharra has said that the Ministry of Education ( MoE) should be commended for its plans to establish a National Education Radio station that will enable learning to continue via its education programs during the time of emergencies where schools are forced to close.

Shara said for a long time, the Ministry of Education has been relying on Public broadcaster, Malawi Broadcasting Station ( MBC) for its education which carries a lot of other programs making it difficult to provide exclusive education content.

He said having its own radio station, the Ministry will now be able to provide content that is exclusive and carter various levels of education.
” The education Ministry should be commended for its plans to establish a National Education Radio for it will help provide content that is exclusive and the one that can carter to various levels of education. It is a good way of ensuring the continuity of education when schools have been closed for whatever reason”, Said Sharra

Sharra added that the Ministry needs to make sure that this radio station covers the entire country, which requires the massive investments in the equipment.
” Not all households have radios, although most mobile phones have radios. But not all households have mobile phones either. It will be important to think about how to reach everyone who needs to access the radio”, he added.

When making a review of the International Literacy Day in Lilongwe on Friday, Minister of Education Agness Njalonje announced that the Ministry is planning to soon establish a National Education Radio Station that will expand access to education and also enable learning to continue during emergencies such as that of COVID-19 pandemic that keep children away from school when the schools are closed.
