Bullets Title Hopes Suffer Blow With Matco Draw: Silver Win To Close The Gap

Nyasa Big Bullets hopes of defending the super league title suffered a major blow as they were held 1-1 by the Salima based soldiers Mafco FC at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The People’s team went into the game three points ahead of second placed Silver Strikers with a game in hand but the draw means the gap has been reduced to a point after the Central Bankers thrashed Ntopwa FC 3-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Mafco’s Stain Malata opened the score sheet 9 minutes into the game but Bullets equalised at 35th minutes through Babatunde Adepoju who scored after receiving a cross from Hassan Kajoke.

With Wednesday’s result, Bullets remain top with 56 points from 27 games, a point behind Silver Strikers but the people’s team have a game in hand.

Bullets are expected to play Be Forward Wanderers FC on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.

MDF to conduct Vehicle Testing and Road Tests for its UN marked military vehicles

The Malawi Defense Force ( MDF) says on Wednesday September 22, 201 it will conduct Vehicle Testing and Road Tests exercise for its United Nations ( UN) marked military vehicles in Lilongwe city and the surrounding areas.

In a statement dated 21 September, 2021 and signed by its Public information officer Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba, the exercise will be conducted from Kamuzu Barracks through Chidzanja Road to Mitundu area starting from 9 O’Clock in the morning.

However,MDF is advising the members of public in the mentioned areas to take note and not to feel disturbed as this is just a routine exercise and that all necessary measures have been taken to avoid inconveniences.

Veteran Musician Chico Kalirani Laid To Rest

The body of veteran musician and pastor, Chico Kalirani who passed away yesterday, has been laid to rest in Blantyre.

People from all walks life attended the the burial ceremony which took place at Chiswe village, Traditional Authority Kapeni in the district.

Among those who attended Kalirani’s funeral ceremony were Mayor of the City of Blantyre, Wild Ndipo, Members of Parliament Sameer Suleman and Billy Kaunda who worked with Kalirani in a number of musical projects.

Kaunda has since described Kalirani as a man of many talents.

He said, “The death of Chico Kalirani is big a blow to the creative industry in the country. Apart from music, Chico was a man of many talents. He was also a humble guy who was always willing to learn new things.”

Kalirani became very popular in the early 2000s after releasing hits like ‘Galu Amulume’ and ‘Achithekere’ . He was once a member of Billy Kaunda’s Amargeddon Band.

Chico Kalira died on Monday after suffering from High Blood Pressure at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

Born in 1974, he is survived by a wife and three children.

Minister Usi calls on investors to promote talents among youths

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi has called on investors to work with the government in uplifting and promoting talents among the youths.


The Minister made the remarks during AMAPIANO Splash Balcon event on Saturday September 18,2021 at Amaryllis Hotel in the Commercial city of Blantyre.
Usi said now time has come for investors to work with government in promoting the hidden talents among the youths saying this contributes a lot to the social-economic development of the country.

He said there are a lot of talented youths in the rural areas and semi urban areas whose their talents remain unpromoted and unexposed due to financial challenges.
” This is now time for you investors to work with the government in uplifting and promoting the hiden talents among the youths who do not have stable finances to do this on their own. Let us organize free music shows where the youths can demostrate their talents for free like what Amaryllis hotel has done for organizing this amapiano balcony event”, said Usi.

Usi added that the government is open to creative minds on whatever is going to shape the creative industry in the country. He called upon people who have various talents which they think can shape the creative industry to bring them forward to the government for exposure and promotion.
” Let me assure you that the government is open creative minds. Whatever you think will shape the creative industry in Malawi, please bring those ideas forward to the government. I also call upon investors to come into this as we together promote the hidden talents that our youths have”, He said.


The Minister appreciated the organizers who organized the music show saying the event was really eventful.
On his part, one of the artists who performed at the event Biggie Lu thanked Minister Usi for gracing the event saying this will draw attention from investors to support the talented youths.
” We feel very thankful to see the Minister attending this show. This is an encouragement step to investors who may wish to support us through the events like this. Let me also thank all of you who have attended first ever Amapiano balcony splash. I hope you have enjoyed the day a lot. We promise more similar live shows this summer season for you to feel vibe”, said Biggie Lu.

The Amapiano balcony session was organized by Myuziki Phusha in conjunction with Amaryllis Hotel with an aim of promoting hidden talents among the artists most especially the youths.

Just three months in the office, Films Association of Malawi President Gift Sukali has already signed two major deals for local films to start being premiered in a proper cinema atmosphere.

Speaking after signing an agreement with Amaryllis Hotel, Sukali populary known as ‘Sukez’ said the hotel will transform it’s conference hall to a proper cinema atmosphere for movie directors to premiere their films at the hotel.

He said actors in the country lack platforms to show case their products, a situation he says is affecting growth of the sector and the signing of the MOU will help local film directors show case their movies.

In her remarks, Sales and Marketing Manager for Amaryllis Khaira Surtee said, on top of offering a venue for movie showcasing they will also be providing platforms for actors’ workshops at the facility.

She said, “Malawian actors will now have a good platform where they can be screening their works.”

This is the second agreement for the film-maker cum producer and his team to sign such agreements having signed another agreement with Latitude 13 Hotel in Lilongwe.

Sukali was elected FAMA president and award-winning actress and film-maker Flora Suya as his vice during an election that took place in June this year.

The FAMA leader was recently in Zambia to promote his movie, ‘Fatsani: A Tale of Survival’, which was nominated for an award at the Sotambe Film Festival in Zambia.
