MBC cries foul over FAM Mibawa football deal, complains to Ministry of Sports

The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation is describing as malicious a deal in which the Football Association of Malawi has granted Mibawa Television rights as football content producers in the country.

Today, FAM announced that Mibawa had come out as the best out of a rigorous process.

Further, FAM announced that all matches will be beamed through Zuku platform.

FAM President Walter Nyamilandu said there was intense competition out of which Mibawa came out top with Simba Satellite (Zuku) as successful bidders as satellite holders.

But, MBC Director General George Kasakula says they were currently into contractual agreements with FAM after they were informed to be the winner of the bidding process.

According to Kasakula, MBC has informed the Ministry of Sports over the matter which they are describing as an anomaly.

Group hold Demos demanding Saulos Chilima is fired as economic planning Minister

A Group of Malawians calling themselves Social Revolution Movement , fed up with the current economic climate today converged at Lilongwe Community Ground to start demonstrations demanding that Vice President Saulos Chilima should be fired as a Minister of Economic Planning.

speaking to reporters before the start of the demos, the group said it is demanding the firing of Saulos Chilima as minister of Economic planning and all presidential advisors on accusing them of wasting tax payers money. The grouping says it wants President Lazarus Chakwera to fire the advisors saying the rising cost of living is as a result of having so many advisors

Leader of the Movement Phunziro Mvula said , the plight of Malawians have gone for worse with the rising costs of necessities and yet government is failing to come up with a sound financial plan to get the country’s economy kicking again . Mvula blamed lack of economic leadership of Saulos Chilima saying , the veep is not fit to hold the position of Economic affairs ministry at this time and should pave way for someone else.

The group also wants the number of Presidential advisors trimmed , saying they are too many for Malawi’s small economy and that many of them do nothing but just waste taxpayers money.

USA based Malawian pleads guilty to murder of Deputy Minister daughter

The man who was charged with the murder of Deputy Defence Minister Jean Sendeza’s daughter Noria Mtambalika and attempted murder of the other daughter Mundi Glory Sendeza has pleaded guilty, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Kalekeni Lindeire, who is also of Malawi origin pleaded guilty on Wednesday as part of a plea agreement. if the Judge accepts his plea, Lindeire is expected to be sentenced to 50 years in prison as part of the agreement.

On September 25, 2020, Mtambalika was driving to the Hickory Village apartment complex with her sister, Sendeza, when Lindeire began chasing the vehicle, reports said. Lindeire fired shots at the vehicle, killing Mtambalika.

Court documents say the sisters were driving to an apartment complex when they saw Lindeire, who is an ex-boyfriend of Sendeza. The women drove away, trying to escape from Linderie after he fired multiple shots at their car, court documents say.

Mtambalika’s vehicle overturned as it turned into the parking lot at 3601 Edison Road. Lindeire tried to pull Sendeza from the vehicle, but witnesses intervened. When police vehicle arrived, Lindeire ran back to his vehicle and drove from the scene.

Lindeire who is 38 years old will be sentenced on December 3.Lindeire is still facing rape and kidnaping charges for an incident that happened several days earlier

Prophet Liabunya mocks Pastor Salanje, ” Your suspension backfired”

Controversial Malawian Prophet, Austin Liabunya has hit back at his fellow preacher of the Word of God Pastor Hastings Salanje on the ten year suspension he made months ago.

Pastor Salanje suspended Liabunya from preaching the word of God after he ( Liabunya) prophesied that Salanje will never be a President of Malawi despite showing his interest.

The South African-Based Pastor, has been saying that from 2030 he will be the President of the country as directed by God.
” Because you have decided to challenge me , I Hastings Salanje the servant of the Living God suspend you ( Liabunya) from the work of the Gospel from this day 7th September to 31st December, 2031 night. I give you a suspension of 10 years and if you behave well the suspension will be lifted up after 10 years”, said Salanje.

On Thursday, November 4, 2021, writing on his page Facebook Page, Liabunya asked where is that someone ( referring to Salanje) who suspended him for ten years ironically, attributing that the said suspension seems not to be taking effect on his ministry.
” One day someone woke up and decided to suspend me for ten years! Where is he now?. I am Senior 1 and I serve the Living God”, Said Liabunya.

According to Liabunya, the said suspension was redirected to the sender.
” That suspension was redirected to the sender”, he said.
Pastor Salanje is yet to respond.

Sexual reproductive health project excites community members in Karonga

Village Head Sam in the area of Traditional Authority Mwilang’ombe has commended Karonga Debate Club (KADEC) for implementing a sexual reproductive health and rights project in the district saying it has enabled girls to protect themselves from early marriages and pregnancies.

In an interview, he described the project to be very helpful to both girls and young women in the district.
“The project has helped us so much in this district as most women and girls are now able to protect their reproductive health and cases of teen pregnancies and early marriages have gone down,” he said.

In a separate interview, Chairperson for the club in Kaswera, Belekete Harawa, said Kadec has been an eye opener.
“Kadec has opened our eyes that we have to protect the sexual reproductive health of our children and educate them on the impacts of teen marriages and pregnancies,” he said.

He has since pointed out that the project has helped children to concentrate on education and plan better for their future.
On her part, project officer for Kadec, Queenith Kaponda, said the project was necessary for the country’s development and has since said there is need for collaborated efforts to help in the fight against gender based violence.
