The Newly appointed Malawi foreign affairs Minister Hon Eisenhower Mkaka and Deputy minister for health Hon Chrissie Kalamula will be among the top speakers at a virtual pre-summit event that has been organised by the London Political Summit group.
The virtual event which is scheduled to take place on Monday 21st July , will see Hon Mkaka and Hon Kalamula share the platform with the Minister for Women Affairs and Social Development in Nigeria, Hon Dr Pauline Tallen; British Conservative Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Peterborough Paul Bristow , and Steve Azzaki, member of House of Reps in Nigeria. The meeting will use Zoom conferencing platform and is scheduled to start at 2pm GMT
London Political Summit is a growing think-tank platform set to engage with Political and economic leaders. It also engages with emerging leaders of the future on the trends of governance and democratic paradigm shifts.
The theme of the Monday event will be “Politics of Covid, Post-Covid and the SDG Positives”. The actual summit, which is a yearly event is planned for October. The pre-summit event sets the tone of what is to come at the summit in October which among other things Awards are given out to politicians who have made a difference in various countries. Renowned TV host Dr Pauline Long will be the host the pre summit event alongside Dr Josephine Odiambo
The impact of the Covid19 pandemic has made the organisers centre around the issue as the main theme for this year’s gathering. “The theme this year is centred on, “Politics of Covid, Post-Covid and the SDG Positives”. Considering the various Covid-19 political challenges and its resultant socio-economic uncertainty both across Europe and Africa. It is now important to re-examine the role of politics in national security, human security and social development. The summit would look at the emerging trends of health and social inequalities among women, children and the gender divide in modern society” reads the statement from the group.
On why Hon Mkaka has been chosen to be one of the main speakers , the summit executive member Allan Mandindi said the organisers felt Mkaka is a perfect fit as he has just taken up a challenging role of building international relations for Malawi “We are sure that Hon Mkaka is coming in his new role with fresh ideas, and by engaging with these leaders from the other countries , it will be beneficial as far as knowledge exchange is concerned” With the issue centred on Covid19 Mandindi said Hon Chrissie Kalamula, as deputy health minister will have opportunity of sharing to the world the current state of the pandemic in Malawi and what Malawi is doing to slow down the rise of the pandemic. There will also be opportunity to hear what other countries who have been hot hard by the virus such as UK are doing to contain the spread.
Participants for the event will include political leaders and top government officials from around the world, community leaders, civil societies and academics. The event is also open to members of the public interested in understanding the ideas that form a political will, public will power, separation of powers, nationalism and patriotism in modern societies .
