Speaking when it conducted a press briefing in Mzuzu, the Commander In Chief for the movement Comrade Timothy Mtambo said its now high time that Malawi starts to move forward as a nation and that the coming election is the one to decide, hence a need for MEC to handle it with all seriousness it deserves.

Mtambo who confidently told the media that CFT endorsed Chakwera-Chilima presidency on reasons to benefit all Malawians. In a statement titled ‘Highlighting the Path to Malawi’ Mtambo said the Mutharika government has completely failed Malawians and deserves no chance to be voted again . He said Mutharika has demonstrated to be the champion of violation of the rule of law and that his intention is to perpetuate looting of public resources and dismissal or attempts to remove from positions all those seem to work against his will regardless of their professional conduct in serving Malawians among many reasons. He further added that under Mutharika Malawi remains hopeless with no direction hence now its time for his regime to go.

Mtambo addressing the press in Mzuzu

On why Malawians should vote for Dr Chakwera , Mtambo said a vote for Chakwera will entail a shift to a progressive and prosperous nation where public service will be revamped under a reformative leadership of his partner Dr Chilima. He said the Tonse government will bring relief to farmers and the country’s economy in general by lowering the price of 50kg bag of fertilizer to K4, 495, thereby enabling abundant food production resulting to food security of families and the nation.

Mtambo also reminded people that economic landscape of the country which has deterioted under DPP regime will be lifted by enabling business youths and women get meaningful loans and utilize such resources in an enabling economic environment that will lead to prosperity.

Mtambo flanked by some CFT leaders Chimwemwe Nachela and CFT Diaspora leader Linda Khembo called upon MEC to ensure that there is undoubted free, fair and credible election. “All existing bottlenecks including the alleged data pollution must be addressed promptly and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders ahead of the polling day. MEC should ensure that political party monitors, or independent monitors, are not intimidated but given full latitude as permitted by the electoral laws and rules”.

Mtambo finished with a strong message for the Army and the Police that being security agents, they should remember the oath of protecting the citizens in executing duties ahead, during and after election so that Malawi remains a peaceful nation that all Malawians will be proud of.

The Defence and Security committee meeting Fattani Printers

The committee warned Fattani that since they have been printing ballot papaers before in elections, should there be any suspious ballot papers in the forthcoming presidential elections, the compamny will be held responsible

Ng’oma s the committee was greatful to the company directors for accommodating them on their fact finding mission, “although there were some elements of dishonesty from some of the employees when releasing information.”

The commitee said Inconsistent in responding to the committee’s question , has raised eyes brows that anything can happen and will be watching with an eagle eyes through out the elections and the committee can come back for further intensive investigations

UK based Political Scientist Mandindi tips Chakwera to win the presidency

By Chalo Mvula

A UK based Political scientist Allan  Mandindi has tipped Tonse Alliance torchbearer  Lazarus Chakwera to come out victorious at the presidential elections  due on June 23. He made the claims  after studying the current political trends  in Malawi  and also comparing how events of the similar fold turned out in the previous elections that have taken  place in Malawi.

Speaking to 247Malawi Media , Allan Mandindi described this year’s elections as unique  and that Malawi is experiencing  some new political trends that have never happened before.

“ Malawi is experiencing a new wave  that is unstoppable , everyone is  geared for change and there is a psychological acceptance from every quarter in society  that  something has to change”

Political Scientist Allan Mandindi – Chakwera and Chilima to win

Mandindi said the decision by the Constitutional court to nullify last year’s elections has given  an energy boost  to a lot of people to believe that against all the odds everything is possible “ We have DPP who have branded themselves as a system, meaning they claim that they have infiltrated in every sector of the government and have influence to get things go in their favour. The judiciary, however, proved that it will always remain independent and despite efforts by the DPP regime to bribe the judges they were not successful “ . With focus now on election monitoring Mandindi believe the probability of DPP rigging the election has been mitigated .

Mandindi believes the spotlight is on Malawi which will make it harder for DPP to rig despite admitting that the ruling regime will still attempt to rig. On the probability of Mutharika winning, Mandindi said  Politics can be unpredictable  but it doesn’t look likely that Mutharika can win

“Look elections can be unpredictable as they are many factors that need to be taken into account , things like voter apathy , null and voids  and of course rigging . We have seen big shocks in political history, President Harry Truman in USA  back in 1948 defied all prediction against his impending defeat to Thomas Dewey  and produced  an unexpected win  when all the odds were against him. Malawi election however is not just any other election, this election is about putting things right that didn’t go right in last year’s elections “

Mandindi , a Manchester Metropolitan  University Politics graduate and a holder of international relations masters says he has been studying Malawian politics for a long time  and feels Tonse alliance is a victory for all Malawians .  Malawi has been so divided, increasing levels of nepotism has left the gap between regional and tribal divides widening and Tonse alliance represents the unity that Malawi needs “ . He described Saulos Chilima as an accomplished orator and great salesman who has pushed the Tonse brand even higher.

Tonse alliance

On comparing the two alliances Mandindi said the DPP and UDF alliance is good on paper but come across with a lot of garbage from the recent past . He also noted that the fact that the alliance seems to dwell on two families of Muluzi and Mutharika has put them at a disadvantage as Malawians are not keen at handing power just to a few families. He also noted that the unfinished corruption case of Bakili Muluzi has made the alliance fail to get a campaign boost from Bakili who is a well known great campaigner. Mandindi also criticized DPP  campaign strategy describing it as a disaster “DPP has lived in denial, and focused on using dubious means for elections not to take place , with that they never focused on campaign strategy  and have only waken up while its too late.I ts backfiring now as even Mutharika can’t keep up and all they have done is let Atupele campaign on his own”

Mandindi concluded that all the political factors seem to favour a Tonse alliance win and he can confidently say Malawi will have a new president in Dr Lazarus Chakwera. “There is time for everything and unfortunately DPP time to be in power has come to the end “ concluded Mandindi

Chimunthu Banda shocks DPP as he endorses Tonse alliance

Former Speaker Henry Chimunthu Banda who is also legislator for Nkhotakota North has endorsed Tonse Alliance presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera ahead of the June 23 presidential elections.

Chimunthu made the announcement today in a move that has split opinions . The ruling DPP seems shocked at the timing of the announcement but many in the party seems not surprised as Chimunth has been on the sidelines for a long time.

Chimunthu said the decision to endorse the Tonse Alliance emanates from a need to change things for the better in the 2020 fresh presidential elections.“My constituents and I think time has come to do things a little bit differently,” said Chimunthu.

On his decision to leave the DPP, Chimunthu said his presence in the party was not being appreciated.

“We concluded that it is high time we accepted that we are not appreciated,” he said.

Chimunthu was the only other candidate who contested against Peter Mutharika at a DPP convention back in 2014 for the leadership of the party. A Month ago he was given a cabinet post , but he refused the post after claiming that he was not consulted prior to the appointment .

Chimunthu was DPP Secretary General as well as a cabinet during the Bingu wa Mutharika administration.

Chimunthu then took a five year break from politics before returning as a legislator after the 2019 elections.
