Chimwemwe Chipungu calls for divine intervention in addressing Malawi’s challenges

By Burnett Munthali

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) advisor to the party leader, Chimwemwe Chipungu, has called on Malawians to seek divine intervention for the country, which continues to grapple with numerous challenges, including hunger and inequitable development. Chipungu made the heartfelt plea at Chilimampunga Ground during a gathering of DPP supporters, emphasizing the importance of prayer in finding solutions to the nation’s woes.

Speaking passionately to the crowd, Chipungu highlighted the pressing issues facing Malawi, such as food insecurity and the selective allocation of developmental projects. He lamented that these challenges were hindering the country’s progress and called on leaders and citizens alike to turn to God for guidance and mercy.

“Let us ask for God’s mercy upon our nation. Hunger, poverty, and favoritism in development are issues that are tearing our country apart. Only through prayer and unity can we overcome these obstacles and pave the way for a brighter future,” said Chipungu.

In a symbolic act of humility and faith, Chipungu knelt on the ground as he delivered his remarks, underscoring the seriousness of his appeal. He urged Malawians to adopt a spirit of prayerfulness and to constantly petition God to heal the nation and provide solutions to its myriad problems.

“This is not just my prayer but a prayer I believe all Malawians should adopt. We need to pray for our leaders, our communities, and our future. Only God can steer us out of this darkness,” he added, as the crowd responded with applause and nods of agreement.

Chipungu also touched on the issue of equitable development, criticizing what he described as political bias in the distribution of projects and resources. He argued that such practices were deepening divisions among Malawians and depriving certain regions of the opportunity to thrive.

“Development should not be a privilege for a few, but a right for all Malawians. Every district, every village deserves its fair share of development initiatives, regardless of political affiliations,” Chipungu emphasized.

His remarks resonated with many in attendance, who expressed their frustration with the current state of affairs. Supporters at the rally echoed his sentiments, calling for an end to favoritism and urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of all Malawians.

Chipungu’s plea for prayer and unity comes at a time when Malawi is facing significant economic and social challenges. Rising food prices, coupled with erratic weather patterns, have exacerbated hunger in many parts of the country, leaving millions in need of assistance. Additionally, concerns over corruption and poor governance have further strained public trust in the leadership.

As the DPP continues to position itself as a viable alternative to the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Chipungu’s message is likely to resonate with many voters who feel disillusioned with the current administration. His call for prayer and equitable development may also serve as a rallying cry for unity within the party as it prepares for the 2025 elections.

The gathering at Chilimampunga Ground ended with a collective prayer led by Chipungu, as attendees knelt in solidarity to ask for God’s intervention. Many left the event feeling inspired and hopeful that, through faith and collective effort, Malawi could overcome its challenges and achieve lasting prosperity.

Chipungu’s heartfelt appeal serves as a reminder of the power of faith and unity in addressing societal challenges. His call for Malawians to turn to God and work together underscores the critical role that both spiritual and civic responsibility play in shaping the nation’s future.

A sea of supporters cheered as Gangata, flanked by influential party figures, walked into the meeting venue, setting the stage for what promises to be a pivotal moment in the party’s journey toward the 2025 general elections.

Notable party stalwarts, including Norman Chisale, the energetic youth leader, alongside Mary Navicha and Chimwemwe Chipungu, stood by Gangata’s side, symbolizing a united front. Their collective presence at the event highlighted the gravity of the meeting, which aims to solidify the DPP’s strategies and reenergize its grassroots structures in the Central Region, a crucial political battleground.

Gangata wasted no time addressing the crowd, delivering a message centered on unity and collaboration. His call to action was clear: the DPP must rise above internal divisions and focus on strengthening its base to mount a formidable challenge against the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

“This gathering is more than just a meeting—it’s a call for action. The Central Region holds the key to our success in 2025, and together, we can reclaim our position as the party of choice for Malawians,” Gangata declared, his words met with resounding applause.

Adding to Gangata’s rallying cry, Mary Navicha took the podium to underscore the dangers of factionalism within the party. She urged members to remember the DPP’s vision of development, stability, and prosperity for all Malawians. “Let us not allow disunity to derail our mission. Together, we can achieve greatness,” Navicha emphasized.

Norman Chisale, whose role as youth leader continues to inspire young members, passionately appealed to the party’s youth to rise and take charge of the DPP’s future. “The future belongs to us, and we must ensure that the DPP remains a voice of hope and progress for the people,” he said.

The Chilimampunga meeting is part of a broader series of engagements by the DPP leadership, aimed at reviving the party’s structures and connecting with supporters nationwide. With the 2025 elections on the horizon, these gatherings are more than just routine meetings—they are a lifeline for a party striving to regain its footing after being relegated to the opposition.

Supporters at the event expressed renewed confidence in the party’s leadership and direction. Many described the meeting as a turning point, an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen the DPP as a political powerhouse.

As the day unfolded, the sense of purpose and determination among attendees was palpable. The presence of figures like Gangata, Navicha, and Chisale added credibility and inspiration to the event, reinforcing the party’s commitment to its supporters and its mission.

The Chilimampunga meeting stands as a testament to the DPP’s enduring resilience and ambition. Amid the challenges of opposition, the party remains steadfast, determined to reclaim its place as a dominant force in Malawian politics. Whether this gathering marks the beginning of a new chapter for the DPP will be determined in the months ahead, but for now, the message is clear: the DPP is gearing up for a fight, and it’s not backing down.

Traoré’s Triumphs: A New Era of Prosperity and Independence for Burkina Faso

By Twink Jones Gadama

In a remarkable display of leadership and vision, President Ibrahim Traoré has transformed Burkina Faso’s economic and political landscape since assuming office two years ago. The country’s GDP has grown from approximately $18.8 billion to $22.1 billion, a testament to Traoré’s prudent economic policies and commitment to self-determination.

One of Traoré’s boldest moves was rejecting loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. In a statement that resonated with many Africans, he declared, “Africa doesn’t need the World Bank, IMF, Europe, or America.” This stance has earned him accolades as a champion of African independence and sovereignty.

Traoré’s government has also implemented a series of measures aimed at reducing inequality and promoting economic growth. He reduced the salaries of ministers and parliamentarians by 30% and increased the salaries of civil servants by 50%. This move demonstrates his commitment to fairness and social justice.

In addition, Traoré’s government has paid off Burkina Faso’s local debts, a significant achievement that will have far-reaching benefits for the country’s economy. He has also established two tomato processing plants, the first-ever in Burkina Faso, which will create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

The president’s vision for a self-sufficient Burkina Faso is evident in his efforts to promote local industries. In 2023, he inaugurated a state-of-the-art gold mine to enhance local processing capabilities. He also stopped the export of unrefined Burkina Faso gold to Europe, a move that will ensure that the country benefits fully from its natural resources.

Traoré’s government has also made significant investments in the agricultural sector. He has distributed over 400 tractors, 239 tillers, 710 motor pumps, and 714 motorcycles to boost production and support rural stakeholders. Access to improved seeds and other farm inputs has also been provided to maximize agricultural output.

The results of these efforts are already being felt. Tomato production in Burkina Faso increased from 315,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to 360,000 metric tonnes in 2024. Millet production rose from 907,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to 1.1 million metric tonnes in 2024. Rice production increased from 280,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to 326,000 metric tonnes in 2024.

In the area of infrastructure development, Traoré’s government is constructing new roads, widening existing ones, and upgrading gravel roads to paved surfaces. A new airport, the Ouagadougou-Donsin Airport, is also being built and is expected to be completed in 2025.

Traoré’s commitment to African values and traditions is evident in his decision to ban the wearing of British legal wigs and gowns in local courts. Instead, he has introduced traditional Burkinabé attire, a move that promotes cultural identity and pride.

The president’s stance on foreign influence is also noteworthy. He banned French military operations in Burkina Faso, French media in the country, and expelled French troops. This move demonstrates his commitment to protecting Burkina Faso’s sovereignty and independence.

President Ibrahim Traoré’s two-year tenure has been marked by significant achievements in the areas of economic growth, self-determination, and infrastructure development. His commitment to African values and traditions is inspiring, and his stance on foreign influence is a testament to his courage and leadership. As Burkina Faso continues on its path to prosperity and self-determination, one thing is clear: President Ibrahim Traoré is a leader who is unafraid to challenge the status quo and promote the interests of his people.
