Blue Eagles have made history by finishing the Chipiku Premier Division with an unbeaten record. The team’s impressive performance saw them accumulate 60 points from 22 games, with 19 wins and 3 draws.

This remarkable achievement has earned Blue Eagles a well-deserved promotion to the Elite League for the 2025 season. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and strategic gameplay.

Four Men Arrested for Illegal Possession of Illicit Drugs

A recent crackdown by the Lilongwe Police has led to the arrest of four men for being in possession of Cannabis Sativa without a permit. The suspects, identified as Joshua Majomeka, 27, George Kachala, 26, Levison Spear, 28, and Shadrick Mbewe, 36, were apprehended at Lizulu market in the capital.

Acting on a tip-off, detectives from the station raided the market and searched several makeshift structures, uncovering a substantial amount of cannabis. The seized items included 85 cigarettes, 27 packets of cannabis seeds labelled Invegrow, two plastic bags, three cartons, and several small packets containing loose cannabis. Additionally, carton packages containing loose cannabis were found in Joshua’s car, tagged with possible destination names such as Mzuzu.



Initially, Joshua escaped the scene, abandoning his vehicle, but later surrendered to the authorities at Area 3. The police had already seized the cannabis and impounded the motor vehicle.

The suspects will appear in court this week to face charges of Found in Possession of Cannabis Sativa Without a Licence. In the meantime, the seized cannabis has been sent to Chitedze Research Station for analysis. According to Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police Police Public Officer

It’s worth noting that possession of cannabis is a serious offense, and penalties can range from up to 5 years in prison.

Elvis Kafoteka, a Malawian football coach, has achieved by a significant milestone in his career by obtaining the CAF B licence. This accomplishment has not only boosted his confidence but has also equipped him with a deeper understanding of the game.

Kafoteka expressed his excitement and gratitude, stating, “This licence has opened my eyes and given me more understanding about the game. I’m now sharper and better than I was, as I’ve realised there were things lacking in me that I’ve now gained through this licence.”

The CAF B licence is a prestigious coaching certification that demonstrates Kafoteka’s commitment to his craft. He acknowledged that obtaining the licence was not easy, requiring sleepless nights and hard work. However, he believes that this achievement will help him become a better coach, enabling him to understand himself, his team, and opponents more effectively.

Kafoteka’s ambition extends beyond Malawi’s borders. He dreams of working outside the country, recognising that this will require even harder work. For now, he is patiently waiting for the right opportunity to join a team that will provide him with the necessary resources and autonomy to build a squad that shares his vision.

In his previous coaching roles, Kafoteka felt constrained by limited resources and the inability to select his preferred players. Despite these challenges, he takes pride in the progress his teams have made, citing examples such as Extreme FC and FOMO FC. Kafoteka is confident that, given the right opportunity, he can lead a team to league victory.

Lightning Kills Two Women, Injures Ten Others in Phalombe

A devastating lightning strike has claimed the lives of two women and left ten others with severe injuries in Phalombe, Malawi. The incident occurred this afternoon at Nambazo, where the women had gathered for a Village Savings and Loan meeting.

According to Gracious Kulanga, Chairperson for Chiwalo Area Development Committee (ADC), the women were caught off guard by the sudden lightning strike. “It was a tragic accident.The women were gathered for a meeting when the lightning struck them.”Kulanga said



The injured women have been rushed to the hospital for treatment, and their condition is currently unknown. Phalombe Police Spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja has requested more time before commenting on the incident.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers of lightning strikes during the rainy season. As the investigation into the incident continues, the community is left to mourn the loss of two lives and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured women.

Malawi Celebrates Milestone as 16 Referees Receive 2025 FIFA Badges

Today, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) marked a significant milestone in the country’s football history as 16 referees received their 2025 FIFA Referee Badges. The ceremony, held at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima, was presided over by FAM President Fleetwood Haiya.

In his remarks, Haiya expressed his pride in the achievement, stating that the FIFA badge is an “international badge” that symbolizes excellence in refereeing. He emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding the hard work and dedication of Malawian referees.
