Platinum Fitness Gym has announced that this year’s Independence Day fitness workout will also serve as a tribute to the late fitness instructor and sports personality Ras Kasengwa, who died in June.
The event will take place on 6 July 2026 at Bingu National Stadium, bringing together fitness enthusiasts from across Malawi for a morning of exercise and remembrance.
Platinum Fitness Gym owner Ndaona Bwana said organisers have set aside time before the workout session to pay tribute to Kasengwa in recognition of his contribution to the country’s fitness industry.
Bwana said Kasengwa worked closely with Platinum Fitness Gym on several previous fitness events, making it fitting to honour his legacy during this year’s gathering.

The workout session is scheduled to begin at 5:00 a.m. and end at 8:30 a.m., giving participants an opportunity to celebrate Malawi’s Independence Day through physical activity.
According to Bwana, the event aims to encourage Malawians to adopt healthier lifestyles and use regular exercise to help prevent non communicable diseases.
He invited people of all ages who enjoy fitness activities to attend the event, saying entry to the stadium will be free.
Bwana added that participants who arrive exactly at 5:00 a.m. will receive complimentary event T-shirts as part of the organisers’ appreciation.
He also urged participants to bring a step box, which will be used during some of the planned workout sessions.
Platinum Fitness Gym is organising the Independence Day fitness event in partnership with Ultimate Car Hire, with organisers expecting strong public participation in both the tribute to Ras Kasengwa and the national fitness celebration.
