Salima Sugar resumes operations as MBS lift Suspension order

Salima Sugar Company on Wednesday resumed its operations following lifting of Suspension order Malawi Bureau of Standards pelted on the company few days ago.

In a letter addressed to the Company  dated 2 October, 2025,  this publication has seen, the Suspension order lifting is with immediate effect.
What it means is that the full operations resumes immediately.

“Following the Suspension Order that my office issued on the production operations of Salima sugar Company :Limited (Raw Brown Sugar) on 25th September, 2025 due to non-conformance to Malawi Bureau of Standards, especially the Code of hygienic conditions standard, and subsequent redressal of the non-conformities, I hereby order lifting of the Suspension Order,” read the lifting order document.



According to the document the lifting of the Suspension Order follows the verification quality audit conducted by the MBS inspector on 1 October, 2025.

Commenting on the sweet news,  Salima Sugar Company Limited and its stalwart leader, Counsel Wester Peter Kosamu commended MBS for lifting the Suspension order.

Kosamu said the Suspension had negative impact on the Company operations.  The Chair added that the company is committed to ensure quality.

He also commended the role which members of staff contributed towards this lifting of Suspension.

“Farm and factory management escorted me to appreciate the maintenance works as MBS lifts its ban  after we complied with their recommendations which mostly did not affectand as we speak, the production has since resumed,” he said.

He said after some repair works using some equipment we procured from South Africa, three mills are now operational with one mill to be fixed soon while daily production will also eventually improve.

In a special way the chair commended Director of Operations Mr Euvancio
Masamba a retired and experienced personnel from Illovo for a good job as well.
