The Malawi Scorchers have been given another reward for their outstanding performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with Sunbird Hotels and Resorts offering the team free accommodation at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.
The offer follows the team’s historic campaign in Morocco, where Malawi finished second and earned a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil for the first time.
Sunbird Head of Sales, Marketing and Distribution Temwa Kanjadza said the hotel group was proud to honour the players for making Malawians proud on the continental stage.

She said the arrangement was intended to provide the team with more than accommodation, but also an opportunity to relax and enjoy a special homecoming.
FAM Director of Operations Gomezgani Zakazaka thanked Sunbird for supporting the national team, describing the gesture as an example of how the private sector can contribute to celebrating Malawi’s sporting achievements.
Sunbird has previously provided accommodation to the Scorchers after their success at the COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.
The latest gesture adds to a growing wave of recognition for the players following their remarkable WAFCON run and qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
