Malawi National Football team – the Scorchers Captain Tabitha Chawinga, has called on all Malawians to pray for the team ahead of WAFCON Final with Cameroon on Sunday.
Chawinga has urged those who can travel to Morocco and those staying at home in Malawi that there prayers are needed for the players to bring home the prestigeous Cup.
She has described the Scorchers reaching that far as miracles saying nobody expected the team to produce wonders but this has happened through prayers.

The Scorchers Captain has expressed optimistic that they will will the match and grab the Cup assuring all in Malawi to welcome the team at the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe with the Cup
“Through your prayers, we will carry the day and bring hope the joy at the Airport,” said Chawinga.
Speaking upon his return from a private trip to South Africa, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika assured the Scorchers that him and the First Lady Madam Getrude Mutharika are wishing them well and are praying for them.
Professor Mutharika expressed optimistic that the Scorchers would bring the Cup home urging Malawians to carry the spirit of togetherness as demonstrated by the Scorchers in Morocco.
“Team spirit is what is needed in this country and we can learn this from the Scorchers,” he said
The President praised the Scorchers for managing to achieve something that politicians have never been able to do, that is they have managed cti to unite this country as one Malawi.
On the sudden passing of Brian Banda who until his death was Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Professor Mutharika described his death as deeply painful in the hearts of many Malawians.
In the Third play off of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria beat the host nation Morocco by 3 goals to two on penalties after the two teams tied to a one all draw.
To reach this far, the Scorchers who went to Morocco as doubted Thomas in the Holy Bible, beat African giants Ghana and Algeria proving to the world that in football, there’s no team which is small, anything can happen after the 90 minutes of play.
