Zambia has taken a historic step forward with the formal adoption of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2025, marking a transformative moment in the nation’s governance.
The newly amended constitution seeks to expand participation and representation, giving women, youth, and persons with disabilities a more prominent role in national decision-making.
President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized that this landmark document belongs to all Zambians, not to any particular political party, religious group, or ethnic community. Its purpose is to unify the country and ensure that even those who were previously marginalized are empowered to contribute to the nation’s progress.
The amendment process was characterized by robust debate and active citizen engagement, with communities nationwide expressing their opinions and concerns. Through dialogue and compromise, consensus was reached, strengthening Zambia’s democratic institutions and fostering a deeper understanding among its people.
With the amendments now codified into law, President Hichilema called for unity, urging citizens to set aside divisions and embrace a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. He highlighted the resilience of the Zambian people as a driving force for overcoming challenges and achieving national development.

The reforms also carry a broader message: that Zambia’s future depends on collective effort, integrity, and shared ambition. Every citizen is now recognized as a vital stakeholder in shaping the nation, ensuring that progress and opportunity are accessible to all.
As the country embarks on this new chapter, the focus is on collaboration over conflict, and on building a nation where every individual’s voice matters. Zambia now stands poised to advance together, stronger and more inclusive than ever.
