By Wadza Botomani

Former soldier Phunziro Mvula has officially submitted his nomination papers at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) to contest Malawi’s upcoming presidential election as an independent candidate. He has chosen retired soldier Cedric Mkwanda as his running mate.

Both Mvula and Mkwanda are ex-military officers, bringing a disciplined background to their campaign. Mvula’s decision to run independently signals his intent to offer an alternative to established political parties.

The electoral process is gaining momentum as more aspirants present their nominations ahead of the deadline. Mvula’s entry adds to the growing list of candidates vying for the presidency, with voters keenly watching developments.

The Malawi Electoral Commission is expected to vet all nominees before finalizing the list of eligible contenders. The election is set to be a closely contested race, with Mvula positioning himself as a fresh choice for Malawians seeking change.

As campaigns intensify, Mvula and his team will focus on rallying support across the country ahead of polling day.
