Malawi’s seasoned singer Dan Chazama has released a fresh track titled Malonjezo, which serves as a teaser for his forthcoming album. The official music video is already available on YouTube.
Acclaimed artist Dan Chazama has dropped a new song, Malonjezo, offering fans a glimpse of his upcoming album. The track tells the story of a heartbroken lover who was abandoned by a partner that once vowed to stay forever. Now left alone, the narrator reflects on their shared past and the humiliation that comes with solitude.
Unlike the upbeat reggae style Chazama is known for, Malonjezo adopts a slower, more reflective rhythm that fits the song’s emotional theme.
A snippet of the lyrics translates to:
“Promises made, pain deep in your heart, now today we see you’ve left me alone. We walked as two, you swore on your knees, you said you’d never leave. Today you’ve left me alone, with the children, running away from me! You’ve married someone else, you’ve broken the promises.”
The Lilongwe-based musician explained that the song was inspired by the growing disregard for marital commitments. He noted that even couples with several children are separating, partly due to unfaithfulness.
The track was recorded by Ralph Ching’amba at Ralph Records Studios, while the music video was produced by John Nguluwe of Positive Arts.
Chazama revealed that Malonjezo will feature on his sixth studio album, scheduled for release in November. His debut album, Muliyimba Yimbani, came out in 2000. He described the upcoming project as special, adding that during the album launch he will also introduce his own band and production studio—two major milestones in his career.
On social media, user Ernest Mangwazu commented: “More fire boss, big up jazzman.”
