APM delivers digital revolution: Mutharika launches Nzika digital ID wallet, Malawi celebrates people-centered leadership

By Jones Gadama

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has done it again.

On February 13 this year during his State of the Nation Address to Parliament, President Mutharika directed the National Registration Bureau to implement a digital identity wallet as part of his broader agenda to modernize identity services in Malawi. Today, the President has delivered.

President Mutharika has successfully rolled out the Nzika Digital National ID Wallet, a groundbreaking innovation that marks a major milestone in Malawi’s digital transformation journey under the DPP-led government.

In a statement issued today, President Mutharika said through this wallet, the National ID has become more secure, and Malawians are now relieved of the burden of physically carrying their ID for verification when accessing public services.

Verification can now be seamlessly conducted using a smartphone.

This is the Mutharika style of leadership. Promise made, promise delivered.

When President Mutharika speaks in Parliament, things happen. When he gives a directive, government machinery moves.

Within just months of his February directive, the NRB has rolled out a world-class digital wallet that puts Malawi at par with developed nations.

The Nzika Digital National ID Wallet is more than technology. It is convenience.

It is inclusion. It is efficiency. Malawians will no longer lose time queuing because they forgot their physical ID at home.

Farmers in the village, students in universities, traders in markets, and workers in offices can now verify their identity using their phone. This is what a people-centered government looks like.

Under President Mutharika, Malawi is witnessing serious, disciplined and visionary leadership.

From stabilizing the economy, restoring fuel and food security, to now launching a digital identity revolution, President Mutharika is showing that he is a leader who understands the future.

He understands that modern governance must be built on innovation, trust and service to the people.

The President thanked all development partners, particularly the United Nations Development Programme for their steadfast support in enabling his administration to deliver on this promise.

This shows a President who is respected internationally, a President who works with partners, a President who brings confidence back to Malawi.

While others talk, APM delivers. While others criticise, APM builds.

The Nzika Digital National ID Wallet is a clear testimony that Malawi is under the leadership of a President who thinks ahead, who cares about the ordinary Malawian, and who wants to make government services easy, secure and accessible to all.

This achievement reflects President Mutharika’s unwavering commitment to harnessing technology for efficiency, inclusivity and convenience in service delivery.

It reflects his commitment to building a Malawi where innovation strengthens governance, empowers citizens and enhances trust in public institutions.

Today Malawi celebrates. Today Malawi moves forward. Today Malawi is blessed to have a President who is sustaining a people-centered government.
