Businessman ‘Mathews Mtumbuka’ launches Weagle Holdings Limited

Renowned engineer and businessman Dr Mathews Mtumbuka on Wednesday, December 20,2023, launched Weagle Holdings Limited, a group of companies which will focus on running supermarkets across the country as well as management consulting, energy and technology businesses.

The launch took place at at TAMA office complex in Lilongwe.

According to Mtumbuka, the new supermarkets seeks to replace the defunct People’s Trading Center (PTC) which had the largest and widespread retail chain with over 80 shops across the country .

Speaking at the launch, Sparc Systems’ Chief Executive Officer Dr Wisely Phiri who was the guest of honour at the event, commended Mtumbuka for the investment, saying it will go a long way in uplifting the lives of people and help the country achieve the 2063 agenda



“One of the moonshot for AU agenda 2063 is to see African citizens being wealthier and every AU member state attain at least middle-income status. That is also envisioned in Malawi agenda 2063.

It’s great to see this great son of the soil (Dr Mtumbuka) joining in taking a step in helping Africa achieve its obligation to its people by creating employment for a number of young people,” he said.

Weagle Holdings Limited which has been in operation for over two years has already created employment for over 50 young people through its two supermarkets in Mzuzu.

The company plans to employ over 100 people next year.
