CDH Investment Bank has made a profit after tax of K41.0 billion for the six months ended 30 June 2026, representing a 124 percent increase from the K18.3 billion made during the same period last year.

In a statement, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thoko Mkavea says  the improved performance is supported by growth in interest-earning assets, particularly customer loans and advances, alongside stronger fixed-income trading activities and improved margins.

Mkavea says net interest income increased by 121 percent during the period, while non-interest income grew by 123 percent, providing a significant boost to the bank’s overall earnings.

He says the bank’s balance sheet also expanded during the period, with total assets rising by 37 percent from K764.0 billion in June 2025 to K1,048.5 billion as at 30 June 2026.

According to Mkavea, the bank’s growth in assets was driven by a 34 percent increase in financial assets at fair value through profit or loss, a 38 percent rise in investments in fixed-income securities at amortised cost and a 21 percent increase in loans and advances to customers.

He says the bank also recorded a 29 percent increase in investment funds and a 37 percent growth in customer deposits.

Says Mkavea:”We maintained a strong liquidity position, with the Liquidity Coverage Ratio standing at 159 percent.

“The customer loans-to-deposits ratio was 45 percent, while the total loans-to-funding base ratio stood at 35 percent.”

Meanwhile, Mkavea says the bank’s shareholders’ equity increased by 84 percent to K99.3 billion, mainly supported by higher retained earnings and effective management of risk-weighted assets.

He says the bank reported a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 26 percent and a Tier 1 Capital Ratio of 26 percent, highlighting its strengthened capital position.

He says CDH Investment Bank will continue to balance growth with prudent risk management as it strengthens its position in Malawi’s financial services sector.

“The bank will maintain a cautious yet proactive approach, prioritising robust risk management and operational excellence. Its strategic focus will remain on strengthening investment in staff development to build a future-ready workforce, expanding digital banking and fintech capabilities to enhance customer experience, while deepening client relationships through customised financial solutions,” says Mkavea.
