Chimwendo Banda Declares Kabambe Fit for Bwaila, Says MCP United

Malawi Congress Party Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has rallied voters in Lilongwe Bwaila Constituency to back party candidate Precious Kabambe in the upcoming by-election.

He described Kabambe as a man of development who loves the people of his area.

“Anthu adzasankhe a Precious Kabambe kaamba koti waonetsa kuti ndiwachitukuko komanso okonda anthu amdera lake,” Chimwendo Banda told party faithful at a special meeting in Lilongwe.

The MCP secretary general also spoke on Malawi’s economic struggles, acknowledging that farmers and ordinary citizens are suffering.

He said they cannot sell their crops at fair prices, while the cost of living keeps rising.

Chimwendo Banda argued that only the MCP leadership can rescue the nation from these hardships.

He further dismissed rumours of internal conflicts within the party, insisting that all past disagreements have been resolved.

“Mchipanimu mulibe mikangano momwe anthu ena akunenera,” he said, calling on members to focus on democratic politics free from violence and bitterness.

The Lilongwe Bwaila parliamentary seat fell vacant after the Malawi Electoral Commission nullified the September 2025 election results due to irregularities in the handling of void votes.

The by-election is scheduled for June 30.

Kabambe faces competition from Democratic Progressive Party candidate Mike Chinzukila, who has backing from Local Government Minister Ben Phiri and several traditional chiefs.
