The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has named Ekhaya FC caretaker coach Fundi Akidu as the FDH Bank Premiership Coach of the Month for May.
Akidu earned the award after guiding Ekhaya FC to an impressive run of results during the month, despite serving in a caretaker role.
He beat competition from Blue Eagles FC coach Derkleck Msakakuona and Masters FC coach Peter Mponda, who were also shortlisted for the monthly accolade.
Under Akidu’s leadership, Ekhaya FC played three league matches during May.
The team registered back-to-back victories before suffering its only defeat of the month.
His performances were considered outstanding and played a key role in helping Ekhaya FC collect valuable points in the FDH Bank Premiership.
SULOM announced Akidu as the deserving winner following an assessment of the nominees’ performances during the month.
As part of the award, Akidu received a cash prize of K500,000 in recognition of his achievement.The monthly award is aimed at rewarding coaches who demonstrate exceptional leadership and deliver impressive results in the country’s top-flight league.
Akidu’s recognition highlights the impact he made in a short period and serves as encouragement for coaches striving to excel in the FDH Bank Premiership.
