The body of veteran journalist and former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Nyokase Florence Madise has been laid to rest yesterday at her home village Mkhulu, Traditional Authority(T/A) Mthwalo in Mzimba.
Madise who was born on April 30, 1939 died on Monday night February 26,2024 in Mzuzu after collapsing at home and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Speaking at the funeral ceremony,one of the veteran broadcasters Pearson Chunga described late Madise as a refined journalist and mother who had a huge impact not only in the broadcasting industry but also in people’s lives.
Another veteran broadcaster Henry Chirwa said Madise was an advisor, hardworker and compassionate woman.
Madise worked as a presenter, reporter and producer for MBC for 30 years (from 1964 to 1994), rising to the position of Assistant Controller in the process.
The BBC Radio-trained Madise was the second female broadcaster to join MBC.
Among others, Madise produced and presented MBC’s vintage programmes such as Song Book Days and Writers Corner.
She also had a stint with Transworld Radio Malawi.
