The Second Vice President of Malawi, Right Honourable Enock Chihana, has commended Japan’s longstanding contribution to the nation’s development, particularly in education, during a courtesy call by Japanese Ambassador Naito at his office today.
Honourable Chihana praised Japan’s consistent support, noting its tangible impact on Malawi’s learning institutions. He specifically highlighted Japan’s role in constructing Domasi University and Nalikule College of Education, as well as providing critical classroom infrastructure and sanitation facilities in primary and secondary schools across the country.

Beyond infrastructure, the Vice President acknowledged Japan’s investment in human capital through technical cooperation initiatives and the dispatch of volunteer teachers.
During the meeting, Honourable Chihana also shared his development vision for Mzimba District, outlining ambitious plans that include establishing higher education institutions, spearheading urban development, creating special economic zones, and unlocking the region’s potential in mining and agribusiness.
Ambassador Naito listened attentively as the Vice President laid out these strategic priorities. The discussions reaffirmed both nations’ shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and Malawi.
The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing optimism for deepened collaboration across the sectors outlined, building on decades of diplomatic partnership.
