Political activist Bon Kalindo, says while praising government and individuals for doing what is best for Malawi to bring back home Malawians trapped with Xenophobic violence in South Africa, the big question is on Malawi’s recovery plan for these Malawians returning home.
Kalindo said most of the people arriving in Malawi from South Africa through hired buses are coming back home empty, their property was either stolen, looted or set on fire.
He has thanked people such as Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira, Onjezani Kenani, Dr. Patience Namadingo, and others, for their tireless efforts of making sure that these Malawians are safely back in the country, however, Kalindo said there are many people in South Africa waiting for repatriation.
The Activist has claimed that those that have not complied by 30th June, 2026 risks to be killed saying already reports coming from South Africa are indicating that many foreign migrants were attacked or killed and this was on the eve of the D – Day 30th June, 2026.
He said it is obvious that Malawians that haven’t made it to the repatriation centres will be targeted for death because the warning bell was already sung loud that by 30th June, 2026 all foreign nationals must leave South Africa back to their countries of origin.
Kalindo has advised the government to take extra care of these returnees saying yes, they are arriving home for safety in a country where unemployment rate has reached at an alarming stage and them running away to South Africa for the same, was blessings in disguise
He said this could be the best time for the government to invite all prominent business captains to a one table discussion on how best they can work together to address unemployment challenges which will be worsened by these returnees.
” Invite Mulli, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, Apostle Clifford Kawinga, Dr. Napoleon Dzombe, Khato Civils, and others, there’s potential in these business captains to create job opportunities in their companies,” said Kalindo.
He said the government must take away the politics of party affiliations to deal with the challenges that will be brought by these returnees claiming that some of these people are graduates from various universities across the country and leaving them as such that they are in their own country, will be a recipe for disaster.
Kalindo said for far too long, there have been statements about the mining sector saying this is the time to utilize all the mineral resources so that the youth don’t stay idle but have something to do and earn money to support themselves and their families and through this way, the crime rate will be reduced in Malawi.
