Malawian political commentator Ken Msonda has called for the government to close the investigation into the military aircraft crash that killed Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and eight others.
Msonda told journalists that the evidence presented so far has already resolved the matter and that continuing the inquiry amounts to wasting public money.
He argued that public opinion in Malawi has shifted on the June 2024 crash and that most citizens have accepted the official explanation of the accident.

The commentator expressed disappointment that some political parties used Dr Chilima’s death to gain entry into government and to secure seats in Parliament.
Msonda alleged that those actors deliberately worked to turn Malawians against former President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and former Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda.
He insisted that the truth is already known and that justice lies in accepting the facts rather than prolonging speculation.
According to Msonda, relatives of the late lawyer Ralph Kasambara, close associates of Dr Chilima, and officials from the Malawi Defence Force have all given clear accounts of what happened.
He said those testimonies have opened the eyes of Malawians and removed the fog of conspiracy that surrounded the incident.
The political analyst urged the government to now shift focus to the practical problems raised by the witnesses during the inquiry.
One of those problems, he said, is the need to provide adequate funding to the Malawi Defence Force to prevent future tragedies.
Msonda also called on the state to purchase modern, reliable aircraft for use by the president, vice president, and cabinet ministers.
He maintained that investing in safe transport for national leaders is a direct way to honor the memory of Dr Chilima and the eight others who died in the crash.
