Human rights activist and former parliamentary candidate for Nsanje Lalanje, Nthanda Khumbanyiwa, has expressed support for harsh punishment against men found guilty of sexually abusing children.
Khumbanyiwa made the remarks after reports emerged involving Benson Mbalame, a prison officer based in Kasungu, who is suspected of raping a six-year-old girl.

Speaking in reaction to the allegations, Khumbanyiwa said he was deeply angered by the incident, describing such acts as inhumane and unacceptable.
He questioned how an adult man could allegedly commit such an offence against a young child, saying society must do more to protect vulnerable children from abuse.
Khumbanyiwa, who has long been vocal on human rights issues, said child sexual abuse remains one of the most disturbing crimes affecting communities across the country.
He further argued that individuals convicted of defiling children should face severe punishment to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
The activist also called on authorities to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly whenever cases involving child abuse are reported.
Meanwhile, Mbalame is currently in police custody and is expected to appear before court in the coming days to answer the allegations against him.
The case has sparked public outrage, with many people demanding stronger measures to combat sexual violence against children and other vulnerable groups.
Reports indicate that cases involving the abuse of children have been on the rise in Kasungu District this year, raising concerns among child rights advocates and community leaders.
