Malawian musician Lawi has confronted rapper S-Khrizzy over a controversial song targeting Malawi Scorchers star Temwa Chawinga.
The song, titled “Temwa Chawinga,” is part of S-Khrizzy’s latest album, 22, and has sparked strong reactions among football fans and social media users who accuse the rapper of body-shaming and insulting the celebrated footballer.
Lawi has criticised the decision to release the song, arguing that it should never have been written or released by the rapper.
According to Lawi, using Temwa Chawinga as the subject of a song in a manner that ridicules her is inappropriate, particularly considering her contribution to Malawi’s football and her achievements on the international stage.
The song has attracted widespread criticism, with some football supporters questioning why S-Khrizzy chose to use his music to mock one of Malawi’s most prominent sporting personalities.
Temwa Chawinga has gained international recognition through her football career and has become one of the most recognisable Malawian female athletes.
The controversy has also triggered calls from some social media users for S-Khrizzy to be arrested over the song.
However, another social media user, Dir Fuego, has urged people to avoid emotional calls for the rapper’s arrest before establishing whether the song actually violates any law.
Dir Fuego’s position has added another dimension to the debate, with discussions now focusing not only on the offensive nature of the lyrics but also on whether they meet the threshold of a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, S-Khrizzy has come under fierce verbal attacks from some social media users, with fans expressing anger over what they consider disrespect towards Temwa.
The controversy has also raised broader questions about the responsibility of musicians when using real people, particularly public figures, as subjects of songs.
As the backlash intensified, the controversial song was reportedly removed from the platforms where it had been uploaded.
The development has brought the dispute into sharper focus, with attention now turning to whether S-Khrizzy will explain the reasons behind the song and its subsequent removal.
