The Medical Council of Malawi has closed the operating room at Monkey Bay Community Hospital after finding it did not meet minimum operating standards.
Monkey Bay Community Hospital In Charge Thokozani Jizale confirmed the closure.
He referred inquiries to the office of the Director of Health and Social Services (DHSS) to provide the reasons for the closure.

But in separate interviews, several medical personnel at the facility collaborated that the theatre has been closed because it didn’t have required lights, functioning doors and other operating tools.
According to our sources, the hospital’s theatre handles an average of three surgeries on a daily basis.
With this development, patients requiring surgeries will now be sent to Mangochi District Hospital.
We tried to contact Mangochi DHSS but his phone was on voicemail after several attempts.
